In exercise of the powers conferred under section 28 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (32 of 2012) and in consultation with Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, the Lt. Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi is pleased to designate the Court of Principal District & Session Judge (New Delhi District), Patiala House Courts as special court to try the offences under this Act (32 of 2012) for the district New Delhi.

MINISTRY OF CORPORATE AFFAIRS 

4,32,796 companies struck off  down during last five years (AUG 8, 2022)

The Minister stated that there is no rule making power provided under section 59 ‘Voluntary liquidation for corporate persons’ in the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. A dormant company is covered under the provisions of section 455 of the Act, the Minister stated.

As per information provided by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, no such measure has been taken to address industrial sickness.

SUPREME COURT OF INDIA

Supreme Court issues notice to Maharashtra govt in Lavasa case (AUG 8, 2022)

Nanasaheb Jadhav and others filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the SC against the order of the HC. The SLP contends that the affected farmers have been subjected to grave injustice since the lands of 18 villages notified as hill stations were sold at paltry sums to the Corporation in 2002.

It further contends that the Lavasa Lake City project was being developed in complete contravention of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act, 1966 and the Maharashtra Krishan Valley Development Corporation Act, 1996.

CALCUTTA HIGH COURT 

HC directs ED to be party in PIL on assets of 19 TMC leaders, ministers (AUG 8, 2022)

A division bench of the Calcutta High Court on Monday directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to be a party in a PIL regarding the assets and property details of 19 heavyweight leaders, including seven current ministers in West Bengal.  

The division bench of Calcutta High Court's Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj gave this directive acting on a PIL filed in 2017 by one individual, Biplob Chowdhury.

China asks India to stop ‘disturbing’ exchanges with Sri Lanka, says opposition to ship visit is ‘senseless’ (AUG 8, 2022)

Reacting strongly to Sri Lanka’s request to delay the visit of a tracking vessel that was due to arrive this week and had aroused India’s concerns, China on August 8 described India’s opposition to the visit as “senseless” and “urged” New Delhi to “not disturb normal exchanges” between the two countries.

The Yuan Wang 5 tracking and survey vessel had last month been given clearance by Sri Lanka to stop in the port of Hambantota from August 11 to 17 to carry out replenishment.
