Registration of Electors (Second Amendment) Rules, 2022 (OCT 27, 2022)

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 28 of the Representation of People Act, 1950 (43 of 1950), the Central Government, after consulting the Election Commission of India, hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, namely: — 

In the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, in Form 5, after paragraph 4, the following paragraph shall be inserted, namely:- 

 “5. An eligible Citizen, who is going to attain the age of eighteen years on any of the subsequent qualifying dates in the year ……., that is to say, the 1st April, ……., the 1st July, ……., or the 1st October, ……, may also file his or her claim for inclusion of his or her name in the roll, in Form-6, in advance, starting from the date of notice, and the same shall be considered and decided in the respective quarter of the year with reference to the respective qualifying date.”.

SUPREME COURT 

Supreme Court dismisses NHAI’s appeal against PNC Infratech in arbitration matter (OCT 27, 2022)

NHAI had appealed before the apex court against the arbitration award of Rs 145.27 crore to PNC Infratech in relation to the widening of the NH-24 project. The order was upheld by the Delhi High Court in July 2019 and the company received the arbitration amount the following month.  

NHAI appealed against the Delhi High Court order in 2020, which has now been dismissed by the Supreme Court.

China to revise women's protection law for first time in decades (OCT 27, 2022)

Legislation aimed at giving women in China more protection against gender discrimination and sexual harassment at work was submitted to China's parliament on Thursday after a third revision and extensive public input.  

The revised legislation comes as activists have expressed concern about increasing government rhetoric on the value traditional women's roles and what some see as setbacks for women's rights and more restrictive attitudes towards abortion.
