Security Council ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee Adds One Entry to Its Sanctions List (JAN 17, 2023)

On 16 January 2023, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999), 1989 (2011) and 2253 (2015) concerning ISIL (Da’esh), Al-Qaida, and associated individuals, groups, undertakings and entities approved the addition of the entry Abdur Rehman Makki to its ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 2610 (2021) and adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.

Goldman Sachs layoffs 2023: 3,000 employees sacked after calling for business meetings at 7.30 AM (JAN 17, 2023)

Global investment firm Goldman Sachs sacked more than 3,000 employees in disguise of business meetings as early as 7.30 a.m. and the meetings with senior managers were put on Google calendar under "false pretenses", the media reported. The layoffs at Goldman Sachs were dubbed as "David's Demolition Day".  

The layoffs at the global financial services also hit Indian workers hard and some of the impacted IITians and IIM graduates shared their plight on various social media platforms.

Paintings to be traded like shares soon! (JAN 17, 2023)

A Liechtenstein prince and a team of investment bankers are rolling out a marketplace for trading shares of art works, betting investors will embrace paintings as an asset class even if they’ll never be able to hang a masterpiece in their living room.

Their business, Artex MTF AG, aims to list its first painting in the first half of this year, said Chief Executive Officer Yassir Benjelloun-Touimi, a co-founder along with Prince Wenceslas of Liechtenstein.
