About the Organising Institution:

The National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi was established by the National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi Act, 2010 (Act No 4 of 2010). It is the fourteenth National Law University of India. The University has established the Center for Child Rights to promote child rights in Jharkhand with the support and in association with UNICEF.

About the Course:

The Certificate Course on Juvenile Justice aims to increase awareness amongst the law students, professionals and the stakeholders about the provisions concerning children enshrined under the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and the regulated structure of the Juvenile Justice system. Through this course, the Center for Child Rights (CCR) seeks to disseminate knowledge about the international law regime pertaining to juvenile justice and the role of international organizations, focusing primarily on the treatment and safety of Children in Conflict with Law (CCL) & Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP) domains.

During the course the experts shall provide an in-depth analysis of the legal system on aspects of adoption and under the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Model Rules, 2016, Jharkhand Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Rules, 2017 and the Jharkhand Guidelines for Sponsorship of Children, 2018. The Centre also envisages providing a practical understanding about the juvenile justice system at the grass-root level to the participants.

 Theme:

Juvenile Justice System in India and Improving its Compliance in the State of Jharkhand.  

Eligibility Criteria:

·         The intake is limited to 60 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

·         Students enrolled in Graduation in any discipline

·         All Professionals

Course Structure:

Module – 1: Introduction to Juvenile Justice System (01 Hour)

Module – 2: International instruments related to Child & Law and Principles of Care & Protection of Children (01 Hour)

Module – 3: Institutional framework and administration of juvenile justice relating to Children in conflict with the law & Child in need of care and protection (03 Hours)

Module – 4: Rehabilitation, Social Reintegration & Standards of care and protection (03 Hours)

Module – 5: Institutional & Non- institutional Framework related to Adoption (02 Hours)

Module – 6: Miscellaneous aspects related to the child (01 Hour)

Module – 7: Orientation for the fieldwork (01 Hour)

 

Credit Structure:

Attendance and Class Participation: 10 marks

Class Tests: 10 marks

Open Book Exam: 40 marks

Field Work Report: 40 marks
